iHack 2.0 was organized by the ISACA Student Group of University of Colombo School of Computing in partnership with Mubasher DirectFN from 8th October to 9th October 2016 at the UCSC premises. It was a 24-hour hackathon to improve the students’ problem-solving skills and to bring out their innovative ideas.
Registrations were opened at 8.00 a.m. where all the participants were provided with name tags and T-shirts. The event commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp bringing blessing to the occasion and the gathering was warmly welcomed by Professor K. P. Hewagamage, Director of UCSC.Then the gathering was addressed by the General Manager of Mubasher DirectFN, Mr. Arjuna Nanayakkara. Parakum A. Pathirana, president of Sri Lanka Chapter of ISACA addressed the audience on behalf of the Sri Lanka Chapter of ISACA and an introduction to the event was given by Mr. Minura Jinadasa, President, UCSC ISACA Student Group. The criteria and the percentages of how the marks were being allocated by the panel of judges were briefly explained.
The teams were given numbers and the battle began for earning the championship. All the participants showed much enthusiasm and were actively participating in group discussions, coding and making presentations.
They were often provided with refreshment, encouraging their involvement in the task. They were also given the opportunity to use an entertaining area where they had a spacious area to relax and to play carom or Xbox while taking photographs in a fun way. Music application was introduced as well where they could vote and play to make sure that the motivation and energy are preserved to continue and reach their targets.
The teams had to prepare a presentation to be presented at the pre pitching where they were given feedback and suggestions about their innovative ideas and their implementation. All the teams had to face the pre-pitching round in the evening to shape up their ideas and products. The teams faced the semi finals in three batches and two teams were selected from each to compete in the finals.
The final six teams presented their ideas in front of the panel of judges and all the participants.The final six teams showcased their ideas well and it was a tough decision for the panel to select a winner. The team devtek of University of Sri Jayewardenepura came up as the second runners up while the team Anova of University of Kelaniya came up as runners up. TeamZ of University of Kelaniya became the winners of the event.
The event marked a great success with the support of the event sponsor Mubasher DirectFN and the dedication of the organizing team keeping space to dream the next, iHack 3.0.
